Luminance and contrast
MIL-L-85762A specifies luminance and contrast values so that all illuminated components will be sunlight readable (at full voltage in 10,000 foot candles of ambient light) and usable in daytime as well as at night. For discrete switches and indicators, MIL-L-85762A adopts the contrast sections of MIL-S-22885, but relaxes the on/background and on/off contrast values from 0.6 to 0.4 minimum. MIL-L-85762A recognizes it must sacrifice some of the available luminance, just as it sacrifices color, to maintain its NR requirements.
For our indicators and switches qualified to MIL-S-22885, Korry has developed techniques to improve sunlight readability, including proprietary light diffusers and coatings to prevent legend ghosting when the display is off. We incorporate these design advancements into our NVIS-compatible products to provide the best possible sunlight readability.
